Getting Clarity on Your IntentionMany people don’t achieve the business success they should because they don’t have a clear purpose.
It is the same if you are starting a business or just launching a marketing campaign, you are setting off on a journey.
If you don’t know exactly where you want to go, you’ll never be able to get there.
Imagine for a moment, showing up at an airport and trying to buy a ticket without knowing where your destination is. Or getting in your car and setting North as your destination on your GPS system. Sounds ridiculous? Of course it its but this actually the way many women run their lives and their businesses.
It is critical that you to take some time to get clarity about where you want to go...
Clarify Your Aim
The key to defining your purpose is deciding what you want the future to look like. Several advantages, include:
Making decisions more easily about what to do
Feeling greater satisfaction as you move toward your objective
Identifying specific action steps needed to reach your planned outcome
1. Uncover your Vision
Your vision is like the picture on the front of the box when you are doing a puzzle. It gives you a clear idea of where you are headed and this clarity will help drive you toward achieving it.
To have maintain a clear vision, think about how you intend your life and your business to look in preset milestones:
6 months
1 year
3 – 5 years
6-10 years
Your retirement
Your vision must reflect both your lifestyle and your business achievements
I will be earning $10,000 per month by July 2010. I will open my wholistic personal and professional development center in September 2011. I will complete the doctoral program in May 2012.
2. Set your Goals
When you have a clear vision, you need to identify specific goals or milestones on the way to achieving it.
While your vision is probably 3 – 5 years away or a bit sooner. However, goals are usually over a much shorter period of time. It is possible to set goals for the next 100 days or for the current year. You could even set a goal for the end of next week.
To ensure your success goals must be specific. Goals often miss the mark because they are too vague. Another essential note to mention is your goals must use language that set the end as an accomplishment. Use language distinguishes them from wishes instead of intentions.
See the in depth article on SMART Goals and the accompanying Work~thru Journal
If you are setting goals around things like launching new products, the number of email subscribers you have or a new market that you are launching your products to it is always best to start with your vision, intention and goals in hand first. On paper, not just in your head.
To help you identify goals, look at your vision and ask yourself what you need to achieve this year (or month) in order to be on course to reaching it. In my example above:
List the various income streams that I have and can establish in time to earn $10k per month
Research small business loans, seek prospects for investment, do a market analysis for optimum location...
Talk with my advisor and map out course work, evaluate if full time status is an option, go year round....
